Brian McElligott

Telos Academy, Carter House

Clinical Director of Residential Care - North Campus

Brian is the only therapist who has ever been able to reach our son and achieve real progress with him. When one approach quit working, he’d go back to the drawing board and build a creative new approach. Eventually, building the trust with our son that no one else had was a big leap forward.  -parent

Brian brings more than two decades of experience working with teens and young adults in the mental health field, offering both depth of expertise and a steady, trusted presence. His warm, approachable demeanor and natural ability to build rapport quickly create an environment where students and families feel seen, safe, and ready to engage in meaningful work.

Brian specializes in working with adolescents and young adults and has extensive experience helping youth navigate a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. His clinical expertise includes working with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use disorders, and autism spectrum differences. He is particularly skilled at helping young people better understand themselves, build resilience, and develop the tools needed to thrive in relationships, academics, and everyday life.

His clinical background is both broad and specialized, with particular strength in addressing attachment-related challenges and relational wounds. Brian has a gift for helping students move beyond self-doubt and disconnection, guiding them toward a deeper sense of trust, identity, and inherent worth.

In addition, Brian has advanced training in supporting individuals with executive functioning challenges and slower processing speeds. He works closely with students who struggle with organization, planning, emotional regulation, cognitive flexibility, attention, and processing information efficiently. Through practical skill-building and individualized support, he helps students develop greater confidence, independence, and effectiveness in their daily lives.

He is especially passionate about working with families as they confront difficult, often long-standing patterns. Brian finds great purpose in helping families not only navigate these challenges, but implement lasting, meaningful change that strengthens relationships and creates a healthier path forward. His family-centered approach recognizes that sustainable growth occurs when both the individual and the family system are engaged in the healing process.

Whether helping a young person overcome anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use concerns, autism spectrum-related challenges, executive functioning deficits, or attachment wounds, Brian brings compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment to helping students and families achieve meaningful and lasting change.
