FAQs About Student Life in our Residential Programs

Do students have access to phones, technology, and the outside world?

Technology access is individualized and based on clinical readiness, maturity, and treatment goals. Many students eventually work toward healthy use of phones, computers, social media, and other technology as part of preparing for real life. Telos believes technology can be an important tool when used responsibly, but personal tech should never interfere with emotional growth, relationships, or treatment progress.

Can students attend school, work, or college while in treatment?

Yes. Depending on the program and the student’s readiness, students may participate in accredited academics, college coursework, vocational training, employment, volunteering, and community involvement while continuing to receive therapeutic support. The goal is to help students gradually succeed in real-life responsibilities while still having a strong safety net around them.

How much structure and supervision is there?

That depends on the specific Telos program and the needs of the student. Some students require a highly structured environment with close supervision and clear behavioral expectations, while others are ready for more independence and real-world practice. Telos offers multiple specialty programs so students can receive the level of support, accountability, and freedom that best fits their situation.

Do students still have fun while in treatment?

Absolutely. Healing and growth are important, but so is joy. Students participate in recreational activities, sports, outdoor experiences, hobbies, service projects, community activities, and social events designed to help them reconnect with healthy interests and build confidence. Many students rediscover passions and strengths they had lost sight of before coming to treatment.

Will my child be around positive peers?

Telos places a strong emphasis on healthy peer culture. Students live and grow alongside peers who are also working toward personal change, emotional healing, accountability, and greater independence. Staff actively mentor students throughout the day, helping create an environment where positive friendships, teamwork, and mutual support can develop.

Do you have a high school sports program?

Telos Titans

Yes!  Telos wants to achieve as much normalcy as possible for students. A Telos student should never feel like they are in a hospital or institutional setting. To offer a full range and quality of life, Telos High offers 10 varsity sports for students to participate in or to cheer for on the sidelines. Certified by Utah High School Activities Association, Telos High is a 1A school and competes with other 1A, 2A, and sometimes 3A schools. Like all schools, a participation and equipment fee is associated if your student chooses to participate.
